Can electric cars be charged at home?
Yes. In fact, most EV charging is done at home because not only is it convenient, but it's also affordable. Most plug-in electric vehicle drivers do more than 80% of their charging at home (source: energy.gov), but there are levels of charging based on the output and time taken for a full charge:
- Level 1 charging: the most straightforward way of charging. All you need is a household outlet that can take a 3-prong plug. This is a slow option, though, and can take over 24 hours to deliver an optimal battery charge of 80%.
- Level 2 charging: The fastest way to charge at home with a 240V outlet. A level 2 charging station can be installed on the side of your house, in a garage or your private parking lot. It can deliver an optimal battery charge of 80% in 4 to 5 hours.
Every Cadillac LYRIQ now includes a dual-level charger. This charging cord allows you to plug into an appliance-style 4-pronged outlet or a standard 3-prong outlet. It can plug into 120-volt and 240-volt outlets to make charging at home (and away from home) easier.
How do I find electric vehicle charging stations near me?
With over 40,000 public charging locations spread out across the country, you are sure to find one near you. Use Cadillac's Charging Locator to find a charging station near you.
Are public EV charging stations free?
Not all public charging stations are free. Some major retailers offer free chargers at many locations. Most charging stations, however, will charge you either by the kilowatt-hour (kWh), the amount of energy transferred to the car’s battery, or by the time taken to charge your vehicle.
Are electric vehicle chargers universal?
Every electric car in the U.S. can charge at Level 1 or Level 2 with a J1772 connector, and the connector comes standard with the car. Level 2 public charging stations all use J1772 connectors.
If an EV is capable of DC fast charging, it will have a J1172 connector with two additional large pins that allow it to plug into and charge using a DCFC system. But you will need to understand the type of charging port your vehicle requires, and which types of charging stations will work for your needs.
The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ has the DC fast charging capability with SAE Combo Combined Charging System (CCS). So you will need to look for a charging station with CCS connectors for DC fast charging for your LYRIQ.

How far can the Cadillac LYRIQ go on full charge?
Most all-electric cars can now go more than 200 miles on a full charge. With a full charge, the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ RWD offers an EPA-est. 312 miles of driving range.
Is there an Electric Vehicle tax credit in Pennsylvania?
Yes. Currently you can get a $750 rebate for a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and $500 rebate for a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). Check out the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection website for more details. Don't forget that if you purchase an electric vehicle, you can claim up to $7,500 in EV tax credits against the federal income taxes you owe: https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/taxevb.shtml
Is an electric vehicle maintenance-free?
No, but electric vehicles have lower long-term maintenance costs associated with them. That’s because EVs eliminate over two-dozen mechanical components that would generally require service at regular intervals such as tune-ups, oil changes, cooling system flushes, transmission servicing, and replacing the air filter, spark plugs and drive belts.
You will still need to follow the manufacturer's recommended periodic checks to keep the vehicle running in its best condition and to keep the warranty in effect. If you don't follow the recommended schedule, the warranty may not cover any repairs that the car might need down the road.
Some maintenance checks include: tire rotation, replacing the cabin air filter and wiper blades, topping off the washer fluid. Bring your EV to Faulkner Cadillac Trevose and we'll be happy to performance the necessary checks.
